The Simple Way to Explain Options Trading
|
Wouldn't it be great if someone would just take the steps to explain options trading? If this is a question you have been asking yourself, you are at the right place. The following will be a brief look at the basics of options trading and how it works. While options trading do have its levels of complexity, it is generally very easy to understand. So, here is a brief overview to explain options trading.
Basically, the market is broken into stocks and options. The price of the stock is based on what the market is selling it for. When you look into options, you have the ability to set a price to buy or sell in advance. Obviously, the goal here would be to set a price that enables you to buy a stock for less than what it is worth or sell it for more than its current market price. This would be the most basic of ways to explain options trading.
Is there a catch with this type of trading? The main catch would be that you have a limited time frame in which to make the buy or sell. That is why they are called options. You have the option of executing your option during the specified time frame.
And, as you can surmise, this type of trading comes with a lot of potential risk as well. Namely, you have to buy or sell at some point and this means you may have to do so at great loss. You have agreed to a price in advance and are speculating on what the future will be. Sometimes, you can make right predictions and sometimes you won't. Because options trading are considered risky, odds are you may lose big if you do not truly know what you are doing. This is not an overly negative way to explain options trading. It is a more realistic one.
And probably the best way to explain options trading would be to say it is not for everyone but it might be for you...
