If you decide you'd like to learn options trading, you'll discover that options brokers will practically come out of the woodwork looking for you. You shouldn't necessarily settle for a broker that happens to work in a brokerage firm you make other investments with. Options trading is more complicated, more risky, and potentially more rewarding, and you need to find an options trader that knows his or her subject comprehensively.

Ideally you should have an options broker that does more than just execute your sell and buy orders, particularly if you are a novice at options trading. A options broker that gives you information necessary to make informed decisions and who has the technical expertise to make your trades as easy as possible for you is best. You should be able to access an options trader easily by email, live chat, or phone. The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) licenses brokers as "Registered Options Principals," and you should look for an options trader with that certification.

Access to accurate information is the key to making good choices in options trading, and your broker should give you the access you need. Stock and options quotes, analysis tools, account information, and user-friendly options trading screens are immensely helpful. Your broker's website should be intuitive to use and should answer your questions. Some brokers will require you to have additional software or additional bandwidth to use their sites.
